If you saw a full-sized bull elk standing in the back of a pickup truck traveling on Routes 555 and 120 in January, you weren’t imagining it. The taxidermied elk, which once stood in the Elk State Forest District Office, returned from its several-year hiatus at the Elk Country Visitors Center. Since the center’s exhibits now are complete with its own elk, the full mount has returned to the center. Many visitors to the district office have said they miss the elk and wondered when it would return. Children really like seeing the mount and many have their pictures taken next to it. Above, Scott Rhodes, an employee at the Elk Country Visitors Center and the Elk State Forest District Office, stands next to the mount during its journey.
