A third round of gas impact drilling fee dollars for an affordable homes project in Williamsport will be awarded Thursday, pending county commissioners' approval.
The SEDA-Council of Governments Housing Development Corp. will receive $270,000 for the Grove Street Commons project, a 32-unit apartment complex for seniors 62 and older, county Planning and Community Development Deputy Director Bill Kelly said Tuesday.
It is the third project set into motion when the commissioners pledged more than $600,000 in gas impact drilling money to the Williamsport Housing Strategy two years ago, which also includes the Memorial Homes project and the Brodart Neighborhood Improvement Program.
"We've seen the progress on the other projects, and we're really pleased," Kelly said. "We're looking forward to moving ahead with this part."
The $6.3 million project will include not only the facility itself, but also state-of-the-art geothermal heating systems, elevators and handicap accessibility for all units, including 36-inch wide doorways in every room to accommodate wheelchairs.
SEDA-COG and the Lycoming County Housing Authority will manage the property, to be built at 1290 Grove St., after its completion.
Kelly said that groundbreaking for the construction is tentatively scheduled for October.
In other business, the commissioners will vote Thursday to award a contract of $24,861 to Sirius Computer Solutions for renewal of the software and hardware service agreement for the county's AS/400 computer servers.
County Resource Recovery Manager Jason Yorks said that the department will seek the commissioner's approval Thursday for funds to rebuild the engine of its 2005 Volvo L330E wheel loader, in the amount of about $46,000.
The commissioners also will vote to approve the application of a grant for $12,000 in reimbushment for an X-ray machine purchased for the county courthouse, said county chief procurement officer Mya Toon.
The next county commissioners meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pine Street Executive Plaza, 330 Pine St.
