Mary Lisa Faso, 62, of Plantation, Fla., passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband, Gary, at her side after a four-month struggle with cancer on May 23, 2014.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Stephan and siblings, Joseph Faso of Boise, Idaho and Melanie Barnard, of New Canaan, Conn.
She was born and raised in Erie on July 5, 1951, to the late Doctor Joseph and Marianne Faso.
Mary attended the University of Dayton and received her master's degree from Penn State. She resided in State College and Williamsport before moving to Florida because of her fond childhood memories of South Florida vacations as a child with her family. She moved to South Florida in the '80s and has resided here for more than 30 years.
Mary was a beloved professor at Broward College in Broward County, Fla.
She met the love of her life, Gary, on a kayaking trip in 2001. They married in 2008 and were inseparable and on the water kayaking as often as possible.
Mary was a lifelong equestrian and swimmer and had recently received her Red Cross water safety instructor rating. After retirement she became a Master Gardener and was trip coordinator for Broward County until the month she was diagnosed.
Mary was loved by all and will be missed terribly.
