LEARN, the Local Education and Resource Network, will host the 2014 Professional Development Conference from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 21 at Lycoming College.
The day's events will offer childcare providers and kindergarten teachers a local opportunity to continue their education and accrue six development hours that are required by the state in order to obtain or retain their certification.
"Professional development for directors and the teaching staff is a key factor in a quality child care program," said Susan Ritter, professional development coordinator with the Northeast Regional Key.
"The continuing acquisition of knowledge and the state-of-the-art information is essential and promotes children's learning and development," Ritter said. "Children benefit the most when their child care providers have specific professional development training in early childhood development and education."
The Northeast Regional Key reaches out to all child care providers by partnering with Institutes of Higher Education and Professional Development Organizations and Certified PQAS Instructors to offer professional development activities across 18 counties.
Directors and teachers have the opportunity to participate in professional development activities that are offered at a very low fee and are offered at various times and locations.
The 2014 PD Conference at Lycoming College will offer participants their choice of three two-hour workshops for a total of six professional development hours.
Workshop instructors will be Mary Mahoney-Ferster, Laurie Weinreb-Welch and Marissa Macy.
The Northeast Regional Key will have an informational table at the event. ACT 48 credits are available through the Key and forms will be on hand during registration.
There is a cost for the event, which will include a pizza buffet lunch catered by Lycoming College.
Door prizes also will be raffled off. Invitation and registration form are available online at www.lycoming.edu/education/learn.aspx. Space is limited. Completed registration forms and payment are due Wednesday.
