A 43-year-old Jersey Shore-area man was hurt when he lost control of the 4,200-gallon water tanker truck at right, which went down a 40-foot embankment, crashing into two trees on Hoagland Run Road, about a mile off of Route 973 west, in Lycoming Township about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Old Lycoming Township police. Shawn E. Winter climbed out of the wreckage and was treated at Williamsport Regional Medical Center. An undetermined amount of waste water was believed to have leaked from the tanker. The state Department of Environmental Protection responded to the scene, as did a specially-trained cleanup crew that used a tarp to cover the dirt that could be contaminated. Booms were placed in a private pond near the crash site to prevent any contaminants from spreading. The cleanup is expected to take several days.
