Robert G. Schemery, 87, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Gatehouse following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Williamsport, son of Lawrence and Myrtle Guthrie Schemery.
Bob had retired from Textron, and prior to employment there, had worked as an iron worker, as a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers.
Bob served in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard, aboard the U.S. Sellstrom. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Frances Ponte; two children, Lawrence Schemery (Kathie), of Register, Pa., and Mary C. Schemery, of Williamsport; and three grandchildren, Brandon (Whitney) Schemery, Loren Schemery and Madison Schemery Fink.
Bob was predeceased by brothers Lawrence, William and Walter; and by sisters Hazel Schemery Luxenberger and Betty Schemery Wheeland.
He is survived by brothers Donald and David; and by sisters, Peggy Schemery Kletke and Frances Schemery O'Brien.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd, with the Rev. David W. Bechtel officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church lounge from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's name may be made to Susquehanna Foundation , 1001 Grampian Blvd. Williamsport, PA 17701 for the benefit of Gatehouse.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport.
