MANSFIELD Softball's Kate Pratt and track and field's Mike Robinson have been named the 2014 Mansfield University Female and Male Spring Athletes of the Year.
Pratt earned Spring Athlete of the Year for the fourth time in her career. She joins football All-American Dan Holland (2000-04) as the only single-sport athletes in Mansfield history to be named Athlete of the Year in their freshman, sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Following an historic 2014 season, Pratt was named PSAC divisional Player of the Year for the second straight season and earned her third straight first-team all-conference nod. She has been named to All-PSAC accolades all four seasons in her career.
The senior was just as proficient in the classroom, earning nods on the prestigious PSAC Top Ten and Capital One Academic All-American lists.
Pratt led the Mountaineers to back-to-back PSAC playoff berths and the program's first appearance in the NCAA softball tournament in 2014 with a .343 batting average and a 1.91 ERA with 10 wins.
Robinson earns his third Athlete of the Year award and second consecutive Spring Athlete of the Year nod. The senior's spring season was highlighted by a thrilling victory in the 1,500-meter run at the conference championships to earn his third PSAC individual title of his career. Robinson was also named to USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honors in the 1,500m following the season.
In his first race of the outdoor season, Robinson set a school record in the mile at the Shamrock Invitational with a time of 4 minutes, 10.28 seconds. It was one of seven indoor/outdoor school records set by the senior in his career.
During indoor PSAC Championships, Robinson became the first male athlete in PSAC history to win both the 800 and mile in the same day on his way to being named Most Valuable Track Athlete and Overall Most Valuable Athlete. Two weeks later, Robinson earned All-American status with an incredible final kick that came up a step short of winning the national championship in the mile.
