On Monday, Montoursville and Loyalsock were only able to get two full innings of baseball in during their Senior Baseball championship game before stormy weather forced a postponement in the top of the third inning with the score tied 1-1.
However, before rain and lightning forced players from the field, Montoursville positioned itself nicely by loading the bases with no outs after earning its first two hits of the game and drawing a walk.
When the game resumed on Wednesday, Montoursville picked things up exactly how it left off, scoring 13 third-inning runs that led to a 17-2 five-inning win over Loyalsock for the team's second consecutive Senior Baseball championship.
Patient offense was the name of the game for Montoursville on Wednesday, scoring the tie-breaking run with a walk. Things then went from bad to worse for Loyalsock, as four more Montoursville baserunners would score over the next two at-bats, all of which resulted from errors in the field.
In all, Montoursville batted around twice in the third inning, scoring 13 runs off of four hits, five errors and seven walks.
Montoursville manager Scott Metzger said that he had no worries that his team would lose its edge after having its momentum abruptly halted by the weather on Monday, because they are a group with superior focus.
"We weren't worried about that with this group of kids, because they are relentless," Metzger said. "They are true warriors, they really are.
"We have a really good, fundamentally-sound team and we told them not to look ahead because these guys are a good team and they want it as much as we do."
Defensively, Mon-toursville enjoyed a great performance from both Dylan Fontenot, who pitched the first two innings on Monday, and Devin Singer, who threw the last three innings Wednesday. Combined, the pair allowed just two hits and struck out three.
Kevin Fox led the Montoursville offense. He went 2 for 2 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
