Harry S. Miller, 81, of Fairfield Township, died on July 15, 2014, at The Gatehouse.
He was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Williamsport, the son of Sibie and Mary Shaffer Miller.
Harry was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army Reserves and also attended Fairfield United Methodist Church. He raced at the Riverview Speedway and at the time of his passing, he and his son, Denny, were researching the history of the track. At his request, Denny will continue. While living on 973 East, he co-founded Hepburn Little League. After moving to Warrensville in 1958, he co-founded Mill Creek Midget League, where he coached and was a member of the board. He was a member of Eldred Township Fire Department. He coached and sponsored Williamsport Woman's Slow Pitch Softball. He supported his grandchildren in all athletics and was particularly fond of all high school athletics.
Harry started in 1955 and retired in 1996 as supervisor for Anchor Darling Valve. In 1964, he received his used car dealer license and his last location was Miller Auto Sales in Muncy. He attended his first Carlisle Event Show in 1974 and was a part of every spring and fall event until 2014. He had sold many cars and had bought a few there as well.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Esther M. Karschner, who died July 11, 2008; three brothers, William, Raymond and Francis; and two sisters, Pearl Koch and Mary Lou Herbert.
Surviving him are children, Deborah L. Miller, of Montoursville; Paul E. and wife, Susan, of Cogan Station and their children, Jason, of Williamsport, Lisa and Cody Beck, of Cogan Station, and Anthony, of Cogan Station; Dennis S. and wife, Melody, and their children, Christopher and Cassandra Brunson, of Eastover, S.C., Jeremy and Kelly Sphunt, of Brickersville, Cody and Samantha, of Williamsport, Jordan, and Corey, of Cogan Station; Diane M. Sones and husband, Larry, of Danville and her children, Tierney M. Swartz, of Hughesville and Tessa C. Schilp, of Hackettstown, N.J.; Perry L. and wife, Jane A., of Muncy Valley, and their children, Amber and Mark Morgan, of Trout Run, Jeffrey and Sarah, of Williamsport, Shari and Joshua Copp, of Muncy Valley; Dwayne E. and wife Cathy, and their son, Austin, of Montgomery; and Pamela R. and husband, Brian Shafer and their children, Collin and Reilly, of Harrisburg; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton, of South Williamsport and Charles, of Williamsport; a sister, Delores Mowrey, of Montoursville; and a special neighbor, "Fifth Son" Dale Merrill.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18 at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. David W. Trostle officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17.
