Fire in Clinton Township

July 20, 2014

Flames destroyed Don Kelch’s garage at 493 Heliman Circle in Clinton Township in a fire that was reported just before 8 a.m. Saturday and could be seen for several miles. Township Assistant Fire Chief Eric Eveland said the building was engulfed in flames when he arrived on the scene. Unable to save the garage, volunteer firefighters directed their hoses initially on Kelch’s home, just a few feet away. Although intense heat melted much of the siding, firefighters were successful in stopping the fire from spreading. The garage and everything in it — including a lawn mower, a four-wheeler and a toolbox — were a total loss. The cause of the fire was undetermined. Volunteer firefighters from several responding communities responded to the blaze.
