Sarah J. Shaffer, 87, formerly of Watsontown, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at her Lewisberry residence of two years.
Born Feb. 9, 1927, in Cogan Station, she was a daughter of the late Leslie C. and Verda E. (Isbel) Aderhold. On Jan. 4, 1946, she married Austin L. Shaffer. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage, until his death Aug. 17, 2012.
Grammy was a woman of love, of caring, of great compassion for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a strong woman who loved her husband with all that she had. She was a person who loved family get-togethers and socializing with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was and always will be a loving mother, a loving grandmother and a very loving great-grandmother. She always watched over the children of the family, as she forever will. She was and is the true heart of our family, a heart that will not fade, but forever stay with us. She was Mom; she was Grammy!
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel L. and Faye Shaffer, of Milton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia A. Grove and Susan L. and Lester Gross, all of Lewisberry; ten grandchildren, Robert Arthur, Jennifer Bentley, Cristy Leathers, Keven Shaffer, Jessica Hartman, Joshua Grove, Matthew Grove, Lee Gross, Lucas Gross and Lyle Gross; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters; and three brothers.
