MANSFIELD - A "Women on Target" event is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Lambs Creek Sportsmen's Club, and women of all ages are eligible to sign up.
Women on Target is a program of the NRA. The non-competitive, all-day event is geared toward shooting activities for women of all levels of competence. New shooters are welcome; no experience is necessary.
Girls under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult woman unless they have completed the Pennsylvania Hunter Trapper Education course.

Participants will experience shooting archery, shotgun, .22 rifle, .22 pistol and muzzleloaders.
A $30 fee provides ammunition, loaner firearms and bows, eye and ear protection, snacks and lunch.

Beginners Firearms Safety Course: Participants will learn how to safely load a firearm, safely unload a firearm, safe clearing procedures, basic pistol shooting skills, the differences between a revolver and semi-automatic pistol and how to shoot each one, and more. Three-hour classes will be held July 22, 29; and Aug. 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26.
Ladies 5-week program: Classroom training on firearms safety and handling as well as tactics in self-defense, in particular, dealing with home invasions. Participants must attend each date. Upcoming programs will be held Wednesdays from July 30 to Aug. 27.
