A dinner and Chinese auction will benefit a memorial scholarship fund in the East Lycoming School District established in memory of a Hughesville High School graduate who lost his battle with liver disease in 2012.
The dinner and auction scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Hughesville Volunteer Firemen's Social Hall will benefit the Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship.
Springman's Country Store of Pennsdale will cater the event. There is a cost for tickets with a discount for children ages 5-10 and children under 5 are free.
Two Country Store gift cards and two children's baskets will be given away in door prize drawings.
Christopher Secules, who passed away in August 2012 while waiting for a liver transplant, was known for his interest in music and theater, how he loved to sing, and his involvement in Boy Scouts and at church.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 26, Christopher's former Troop hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church in Hughesville, will be assisting at the dinner and Chinese auction.
The Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship provides a $500 award each year to a high school senior who best exemplifies his musical involvement, academic interests and abilities, and overall personality.
The annual recipients of the scholarship are chosen from among applicants who reside in the East Lycoming School District.
Priority is given to a student who has been involved in music or musical theater and has been accepted to an institution of higher learning, with an intended major in music, engineering, computer science, technology or medicine.
Consideration may be given to an applicant intending to major in mathematics, if the other criteria unrelated to intended major area of study are fulfilled.
Joshua Fry was the recipient of the first award of the Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship at the Hughesville High School graduation ceremony in June.
Financial donations also are being accepted to support this scholarship. Anyone interested in making a gift may mail it to the East Lycoming Education Foundation, East Lycoming School District, 349 Cemetery St., Hughesville, PA 17737. Designate the gift to the Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship Award.
