In an effort to honor former classmates, the Williamsport Area School District Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the recipient of its third Distinguished Alumni Award.
The organization, which launched in 2012, plans to present the award for the third time during a pre-game ceremony at the high school's Homecoming football game on Oct. 3.
Last fall, the organization honored class of 1975 grad Samuel B. Hoff, a Delaware State University professor for his success and achievements through his professional and political life.
Shown is Dr. Samuel B. Hoff, center, the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, flanked by Susan Swank-Caschera, Alumni Association president, and Dr. Don Adams, superintendent.
"It's truly an all-American city," Hoff said of Williamsport. "(The high school) prepares students for life in more ways than one. I have my parents to thank for choosing Williamsport to reside. I truly think it was a positive feature in my life."
Frank Girardi, class of 1957, was the inaugural recipient in 2012.
"This is a major component of our organization, because it ties in directly with our mission to reconnect with those who have moved on from the district," said Greg Hayes, the association's executive director.
According to Hayes, WAHS has produced outstanding graduates through the years "who have achieved or done great things," either in their field of work or through public service.
"This is one way to honor them, through a network of their peers, for what they've accomplished and bring them back to where it began," he said.
For those wishing to nominate an individual, either living or deceased, a nomination form can be found at the Alumni Office, 2780 W. Fourth St., or download one at www.wasd.org/alumni.
For questions or more information, contact 570-327-5500, ext. 33495.
Nomination forms must be submitted on or before Sept. 5.
A committee of Alumni Association board members will review and announce the award winner by Sept. 12.
