Education class planned for hunters, trappers
ANTES FORT - A Hunter-Trapper Education class will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the state Game Commission regional office on Route 44 .
Students must attend both sessions and pass a certification test to receive their card.

FoxPro backs Renovo outdoors show in August
SOUTH RENOVO - FoxPro, a nationally known predator call maker based in Mifflin County, is sponsoring the South Renovo Outdoor Show, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at Citizens Hose Fire Co., 415 Fourth St.
The event will feature more than 20 vendors with products such as turkey and predator calls, custom trail cameras, hunting lights, custom fly rods, fly-tying accessories, and trapping supplies.
FoxPro's field staff member and predator hunter Kirk McKendree will conduct a seminar from 2 to 4 p.m.
Master falconer Fran Gray, of Centre County, will present a seminar from 11 a.m. to noon.
Admission and seminars are free, with limited seating.
A number of prizes will be raffled off.

Business offers guided kayak tour
Enjoy the companionship of other friendly paddlers and watch for riverside wildlife, improve your paddling skills and learn about local history during an 8 river mile-long paddle between Montoursville and Muncy, with an island rest stop mid-way. Everything is included for $55 per person ($45 if you use your own gear).

A similar trip - Peace of the Susquehanna - will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 31. It involves 7 miles on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River between Montgomery and Watsontown. The cost is $45 per person or $35 if you use your own gear.
Fish and game group readies for ox roast
ALTOONA - The Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association, 301 Riggles Gap Sportsman Road, will hold its 76th annual ox roast from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. The public is invited to celebrate the group's kickoff of its 100th anniversary celebration.
Activities include trap shooting, 3D archery (starting at 8 a.m.), running deer, bowling pin and novelty shoots, kids' games, bingo, bottle cap shoot, sportsman's flea market, .22-caliber shooting gallery and drop-the-block on the main range.
Activities on Sept. 1 include a field day shoot and live music from the Back Yard Rockers.
Also planned are food items, including ox roast sandwiches, hay rides and arts and crafts vendors. Parking is free.

ATV safety class scheduled
An all-terrain vehicle safety class will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 20 at Wheels Of Williamsport Inc., 99 Grey Fox Drive, Montoursville.
Class size is limited and advance registration is required. Students - youths or adults - must provide their own ATVs.
State-certified safety instructors Bill and Nancy Stugart will teach the course.
Pennsylvania law requires that youths ages 8 through 15 take a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources-approved safety training course and earn a safety training certificate from it before operating an ATV off their parents' or legal guardian's property.

Hunter-trapper education classes set
MUNCY VALLEY - A free hunter-trapper education class will be held via independent study classes 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 at the North Mountain Sportsmen's Association Club.
Individuals who are at least 11 years old may register on the state Game Commission website for any of these classes. Attendance at the entire program is required to receive certification card.

4x4 club announces benefit ride
RANSHAW - Eagle Valley Off Roaders will hold its fourth annual Wheelin' 4 Wishes benefit ride from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area, 4100 Route 125, Coal Township.
The event, open to all makes and models of 4x4s, is a guided trail ride on the east and west property of the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area.
The ride was started three years ago by a high-school-age member of the Eagle Valley Off Roaders, a family-based, non-profit, four-wheel drive club, as part of a senior project. The proceeds benefit the Make-A- Wish Foundation.
