The wonderful gift to the world of your area's Little League World Series is pretty much the eighth wonder of the world.
But I cannot understand why the leaders of the Series allow such poor, almost comical, calling of balls and strikes.
Yeah, I know, the umps are wonderful people who are complete volunteers, but the importance of the event screams for better home plate umpiring.
Otherwise, how will the young athletes learn the strike zone, etc.
I refuse to believe that Little League doesn't have enough funds to hire professional level home plate umpires and only home plate because the other calls seem to be mostly correct.
Little League needs to take a serious look at this part of the program.
It will help in many ways. Right now, it is often an unbelievable show of incompetence.
