It always amazes me to hear how many poor and lower middle class will carry the torch for the elite right wingers in this country especially on social issues. You folks will beat up on people asking for an increase to the minimum wage while at the same time ignoring the corporate tax loopholes, Wall Street rip offs, and shameless war profits gained through the blood of our kids in so many I'll conceived intrusions in Muslim countries. You are the reason this country takes two steps back for every one forward.you continue to be buy the line of crap that "trickle down" economics is the way to go.Turn off FOX and Friends and read a few national newspapers. Stop dumbing down America and blaming the poor while excusing the corruption of the elites who actually brought on the Great recession. Of course the minimum wage should be raised to a true living wage.Shame on you for thinking otherwise.

O,I forgot about the 47% but, there is a difference, these people really WORK! "Keep'n poor'!!!?
Premier: "Thank Good'o!"
Smid1972: Boy, I think I would have a better conversation with a ROCK! I'll make this a little easier to understand. Give the people making minimum wage the increase per HOUR and I'm guessing,I'm no tax expert but,I'm pretty sure most if not all will get all their 'TAX MONEY" back on April 15th! They're not in the 35% bracket.
Question asked, question answered, answer not good enough. I dunno.

MERCURY2- I think I am now understanding what you are saying!! You are concerned that these people aren’t going to get much money back during tax time. LOL oh my friend why didn’t you say so! Now it makes all the sense in the world. Let’s give them more money per hour so they can pay more into taxes and get more money back at the end of the year. So what you are essentially telling us is that you think these people should use the government as their savings account instead of getting more money to invest they should pay more money so they get it at the end of the year. Wow, you are most certainly far left. That is what’s wrong with people today, including yourself. You’re giving the government money so you get a lump sum that you can blow. Well my philosophy is, get back the least amount from the government and invest the rest. No-wonder the far left want to increase MW so they can get their greasy hands on the money.

Premier: I'm not going to facts check this information (the graph) but, all that is telling me and anyone making minimum wage your going to stay poor! I wander what the (graph) shows for the "big boys and girls",owners, ceo and the like that pay this minimum wage?
and for example instead of getting $100 back they only get $50! I didn't think minimum wage was so complicated! Just give the people making minimum wage the few extra bucks and that will be that,SIMPLE!
Smid1972: Yes, I do read your comments. I'm not going in to any long comment back but, what 'tax bracket' do you think people making minimum wage are in with the amount of money they make? I believe this formulation you came up with won't effect what they pay or get back in taxes. I make a little over $21 grand a year on retirement and to put that into an hourly figure,it's $10.10 an hour and the funny part is I take the 'standard' deductions (only myself) and get money BACK! Now,at $7.25 an hour which comes to $290 a week and yearly that's $15 grand tell me how your formulation will help? I know they will have more money in their pockets at the end of the week but, what about the long term you know April 15th. Either way it will come out the same in the end,NO INCREASE IN PAY per hour! It's like going in a circle. "Pay me more now but, you'll get less in your tax return in the end! That sounds like the old saying,"even steven"! Some people depend on that "refund c
Mercury, that article had a graph with it that showed buying power for MW per year and while not a flat line it was very comparable.

mercury2-do you not read what I type? I said the government should NOT tax $1 or $2/hour of a paycheck which will give $40-$80 more per week. Your proposed MW hike will give them less by the time taxes are taken out. How am I saying anything that isn’t supportive of the common employee. All I said is why screw the small and medium businesses by raising MW when there are other ways to get money in these peoples pocket. And yes people should be more than happy to just have a roof over their head, there are a lot of people that don’t even have that. So yes what I am saying is get a job and work and earn your way to the top. The problem with people like you that are so far left is you feel people should just be handed everything and not have to work for it. I have busted my butt for 30+ years to get what I have so yes I don’t think someone who walks into any job should start off making as much as I do when I have earned my pay, key word being earned!!!
Smid1972-post-9:06am: So,what I get from your comment is,"They should be glad they got a roof over their heads"? Sometimes I ask myself,"why am I even comment on this subject, I'm retired have plenty of food and even a television set and can go to the movies every once an awhile. But, It dawned on me,"I CARE ABOUT MY FELLOW AMERICANS and they shouldn't be put in a box and told to shout up, and told "you should be glad you got a roof over your head!" It's true, there are people who can't handle money very well but, there are some that do but, "throw everyone under the bus"!
Start your own business, risk everything you have and then you come back and let us know your take on wages, taxes, legislation, etc.-nobod74
That's right, these workers(who MAKE you money) should be paying you for the privilege of working for you. They OWE YOU that!!! YOU decide to start/try a business & everyone should completely cater to your every whim because YOU decided to take a(hopefully calculated)risk---IT is OWED to you by everyone who is not in business(TAKERS by TP/Con standards). Those who are not business owners DESERVE to be working for next to nothing. Got that about right???
Premier: That does sound positive but, did you check prices from 1979 and compare them to 2014? Smid1972 said I'm an idiot so maybe you can type slow for me? I'm just curious if the hourly wage kept up with today's prices.
Smid1972:So,now I'm an idiot! Listen Einstein can you do me a favor and tell all your "RIGHT" friends to quit calling President Obama the "Foodstamp President" after you clowns on the "RIGHT" are willing to raise the minimum wage! I have friends that make the bogus $7.25 an hr. and have to rely on 'foodstamps' to get them through. You can't have it both ways, blaming people on 'foodstamps' for su*king of the government and still not raise the minimum wage! Now,tell me more about the people "ON TOP"! I guess the people on the "RIGHT" at the top must think they're going to live forever and need all the money they can get, even if it's hurting people "ON THE BOTTOM"!

Mercury , I came upon something encouraging. In 1979 13.4% of hourly employees worked at MW compared to 4.7% today. Things are looking better than in the past, not rosy but better.
Mercury2-you’re an idiot. The reason the top people get raises is because they have already worked their way to the top to deserve it. But maybe in your opinion the people at the bottom should just make $15/hour to start and jump right up to the same amount as people who have worked for years. Also I want to point out that you are slightly narrow-minded. You see people in bigger cities don’t get the “national” minimum wage they start out at like $12/hour due to the cost of living in the area they live. You see MW is the bare minimum someone can start at, not necessarily what everyone starts at. In a small area like this you are less likely to get $10/hour cause the cost of living is much lower than in let’s say philly.

Premier: Not sure what to raise the minimum wage to but,why does it seem in business the first and sometimes only the 'top'get raises? I'm just looking for 'fairness'. I don't have a clue how to run a business, you got one up on me on that part but, when people can't make enough each week to "SURVIVE" and have to turn to 'food stamps' or medical assistance'and then get 'blasted' by the "RIGHT" for su*king off the GOVERNMENT,you know the 47%!! Most times I hear,we can't raise the minmum wage because of one thing or another are not reasons but, excuses!

cont. Oh BTW I paid for my education. Not the government and not my parents. And this bull about the republican party. Your just old and stuck in your ways if you think ANY politician is out there to better anyone else but themselves. I don’t care which side you are on.
Mercury2-I don’t think you get it, in a lot of cases giving people more money isn’t always the answer. MW was never meant to be a living, it was meant as a starter job. Now, you take these unions that that are getting paid $20-$25 an hour and you wonder why businesses are going overseas. And yes I did work a union job at WWR. You sit there and always blame the business person but in a lot of cases most of these people started with nothing and made the company what it is. They deserve to be paid for all the blood, sweat and sleepless nights the endured over the years. You say people can’t live off of MW but people do it every day. All you need is a place to live, running water, heat and electricity. All those other things are bonuses, cable, fancy cell phones, etc, etc. The problem is people don’t know how to manage their money. I had the bare minimum when I was making $5/hour and worked and educated myself to what I have now. Oh BTW I paid for my education. cont.

Gobb62: "We all live in the real world"! And in the real world people get RAISES! By your comment there are people out there making minimum wage but, don't want it increased? Did you ever refuse a raise in pay?
Mercury, I have nothing against raising the minimum wage but not $2.85. That would do more harm than good as hiring would almost cease or force many small business to go under. Like the fast food workers demanding $15 an hour for flipping burgers? Let's just say they all got that and at the same time they were all made co-owners of the business and were responsible for all the overhead and expenses. What do you think they would be willing to pay new hires?
"I'm guessing the 'disagreers' aren't making 'minimum wage'!!"
No, the disagreers live in the real world, whereas you do not.
Is this something "new" we're commenting on? I think I've heard this before many years ago when I was making .97 cents and hour at Stroehmann's. Thank God for UNIONS!!
All I hear is business, business and more business. This is how it works in the world of making a living. Botton line and these comments prove it,Republicans for business and the democrats for the 'WORKING MAN AND WOMEN!' There may be a day when all working people will be paid minimum wage but, only if you get a republican aka:Tea Party idiot in charge!God knows you're working on it!!
