Japan wins consolation game

Peachtree City, Georgia all tournament had a solid defensive unit, but on Sunday afternoon it was Kawaguchi, Japan’s offense that stole the show.

Masato Igarashi hit a home run, Shisei Fujimoto hit two doubles and Japan defeated Georgia at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in the consolation game to be the Little League World Series’ third-best team, 8-2.

Kai Nogami went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a double and scored twice. Fujimoto also was 2 for 3. Yudai Yuasa added a double.

Jansen Kenty led Georgia by having the team’s only extra-base hit with a double.

Japan scored seven of its eight runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Japan held an 8-0 lead until Georgia scored twice in the top of the fifth.
