Loyalsock, Williamsport advance; Solomon a state champ
Loyalsock’s boys basketball team opened the PIAA Class AA boys basketball playoffs with a 63-54 victory over Mid Valley Saturday afternoon at Williamsport High School. It was coach Ron Insinger’s 800th career victory with the Loyalsock boys program.
Elsewhere, Williamsport hung on to beat Bethlehem Liberty, 62-60, to open the PIAA Class AAAA boys basketball playoffs at Montoursville. Up next is Chester Wednesday at a time and place to be determined.
Wellsboro and Lewisburg were eliminated in the Class AA playoffs, with Wellsboro falling 63-47 to Delone Catholic and Lewisburg falling 60-55 to Holy Cross.
In wrestling, Milton’s Ryan Solomon repeated his PIAA Class AA 195-pound title with a 7-0 win over Garrett Vulcano of Chartiers-Houston.
Muncy’s Troy Hembury and Lewisburg’s Brandon Smith finished second. Hembury fell 3-1 to Dakota Deslauriers of Burrell at 182 and Smith fell 2-0 to Saucon Valley’s Ray O’Donnell at 220.
