Roundup: Near perfect game for Williamsport softball

Williamsport’s Alexis Bower was a sixth-inning walk away from a perfect game, but had to settle for her first no-hitter of the season in a 7-0 win over Altoona on Tuesday. Bower struck out 15 and added a solo home run in the fourth innings as the Millionaires improved to 6-2.

Lexie Temple doubled and Muncy beat Benton, 3-1, to open a two-game lead in the HAC-III.

Brianne Brewer threw a 1-hit shutout and Bryce Hillyard homered as Jersey Shore pounded Midd-West 17-0 in five innings and won its fifth straight.

St. John Neumann defeated Millville, 27-16, in a game that was continued from March 28. Marcie Fischetti walked six times and scored six runs in the win.

In the second game, St. John Neumann defeated Millville, 11-1. Megan Helminiak struck out seven batters while limiting Millville to one run on one hit in a complete game. Helminiak went 2-4 at the plate with a double while Chelsea Risley added a double, a triple and drove in three runs.

Behind a strong pitching performance, Southern Columbia defeated Hughesville, 10-0. Elle Watts went 2 for 3 at the plate while Cindie Wilt added a double in the loss for Hughesville.

Lori Bauman went 4 for 4 and scored to lead Central Columbia to a 3-2 win over Warrior Run. Jackie Clemens went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the loss for Warrior Run.

Dani Lincoln had two doubles and MacKenna Miller added two hits as Milton defeated Danville, 7-1. Alyssa Shaw and Zina Knight each had two hits for Danville in the loss.

In baseball, South Williamsport remained undefeated with a 5-2 win over Shamokin. The Mounties (8-0, 7-0 HAC-II) scored three runs in the first and two more in the third. Billy Rummings pitched four innings and picked up his third victory.

Davey Ludwikowski threw five strong innings and Steven Moon doubled but Hollidaysburg beat Williamsport 2-1 on a walk-off single in the seventh inning. The Millionaires (6-4) were held to just one hit and allowed two unearned runs. They play at Jersey Shore today.

Montoursville took down Bloomsburg, 7-2. Andrew Null led the Warriors with a complete game on the mound while going 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.

In boys tennis, Galeton defeated Williamson twice, 7-0, to improve to 14-0. The Tigers didn’t drop a set in the 10 singles and four doubles matches played.

Central Columbia beat Muncy, 5-0. Central swept all five matches while not dropping a game in the second doubles match.

Milton swept all five matches from Montoursville in a 5-0 win. The sweep didn’t come easy, though, as Montoursville forced a tie-break in the first doubles match before falling.

In boys track and field, Sullivan County junior Luke Iarkowski qualified for district in the triple jump with a leap of 39-7 at a meet featuring Wyalusing, Canton and Northeast Bradford.

Williamsport’s Caleb Belle won the triple jump, 200 and was a member of the 400-meter relay team as the Millionaires beat Jersey Shore, 116-34.

Wellsboro’s Bobby Hill won the 800 and 1,600 as the Green Hornets beat North Penn 96-53.

Milton took first place in all seven field events and the Black Panthers defeated Danville, 109.5-40.5.

Lewisburg’s Will Sumfest won the 400, shot put and pole vault, but the Green Dragons fell to Selinsgrove, 85-65.

In girls track and field, Wellsboro’s Jada Jackson won the 1,600 and 300 hurdles as the Green Hornets beat North Penn, 89-61.

Montoursville’s Teri Stoner swept the hurdles and the Warriors defeated Southern Columbia, 94-56.

Milton’s Joselyn Pascual won the high jump, triple jump and 200 but the Black Panthers lost to Danville, 86-64.

Lewisburg’s Jenna Farmer won the 400 and 800, but the Green Dragons fell to Selinsgrove, 96-54.

In college baseball, Shippensburg downed Lock Haven, 7-4. Jay Hartman went 3 for 4 with a run scored at the plate for the Bald Eagles while Ryan Henritzy and Jose Diaz each added two hits.

With a shutout in the first game and a huge comeback in the second game, Masnfield swept a double header with Clarion, 6-0 and 7-6. Quin Taylor pitched a complete-game shutout in the first game to lead the Mounties while Anthony Renz hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Mansfield a win in the second game.

In college softball, Mansfield split a double header with LeMoyne, dropping the first game, 4-3 ,and taking the secondg game, 13-11. Courtney Bauder hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to give the Mounties the win in the second game.

In college lacrosse, No. 6 Lock Haven took down No. 13 IUP, 10-9. With the win the Lady Eagles clich their second straight PSAC regular season title.

Behind nine points from Hana Krechel, Lebanon Valley downed Lycoming, 18-8. Krechel led the way for Lebanon Valley with six goals and three assists while Casey Meguire scored three goals for Lycoming.
