Keystone Majors continues to roll
BEECH CREEK – It just seemed like another typical game for Keystone.
District 12’s most dominant team thus far finished with seven home runs, three doubles and 13 singles as it defeated South 27-1 in four innings of a Major Baseball winner’s bracket game on Saturday.
It has been a quick three games for Keystone, which has posted 76 runs in just a little less than two full six inning games.
Keystone, and its video game like stats, will play Jersey Shore/GSV Tuesday at Loyalsock in the District 12 winner’s bracket final.
“They were ready to play today,” Keystone coach Jim Corl said. “They came ready to play today.”
It might just be a coach trying to be modest, but Keystone did more than just come ready to play.
Keystone scored more than 20 runs for the third consecutive game, opening with nine in the first inning before exploding for 13 in the second.
Asher Corl opened the contest with a walk, but was quickly brought home when Troy Gardner connected for Keystone’s first home run of the day. Aaron Swartz, who easily picked up the win pitching, followed Gardner with the team’s second home run.
Swartz, who finished 5 for 5 with two doubles and four runs scored, wasn’t fazed by South Williamsport’s one-run response in the bottom of the first. Pitching with a 9-0 lead, Swartz really didn’t have much of a reason to stress over one run.
“Aaron came out and threw a really nice game,” Corl said. “We expect that of our pitchers. They both did a great job.”
Tanner Lauelle increased the lead with a three-run home run to open the scoring for Keystone in the second inning. Corl (3-4, 2 HRs) then added the first of his two home runs.
The first nine batters of the second inning scored for Keystone and forced four South Williamsport pitching changes before the third inning.
It has been quite a three-game run for Keystone, which has yet to go the full six innings in any game and has hit 19 home runs.
