PIAA baseball: Canton wins, Hughesville loses, Loyalsock postponed
Canton was the lone area team to advance out of the second round of the PIAA baseball tournament Thursday, as Hughesville lost and Loyalsock’s game was stopped by rain.
Canton beat Calvary Christian, 3-1, to advance to Monday’s Class A semifinal vs. Old Forge, a 4-0 winner over Devon Prep. A site and time will be announced. the PIAA Class A final is 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at Penn State.
Hughesville lost 9-5 to Salisbury Twp. in their Class AA quarterfinal at Pine Grove.
Salisbury will play the winner of Loyalsock-Delone Catholic. That game was suspended after 3 innings by rain, with Delone ahead 5-4. The game will be completed Saturday, according to Loyalsock athletic director Ron Insinger. An exact time will be announced Friday.
Earlier Thursday, the PIAA had said the game would resume at 1 on Friday, but Friday’s weather forecast calls for more rain and Loyalsock High School’s graduation is Friday evening.
