Anderson, bullpen lead Cutters on road

Drew Anderson and two relievers combined to scatter seven hits as Williamsport beat Auburn on Thursday night, 4-1, to take three of the four games against the Doubledays.

Dylan Cozens led the offense, going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. His double in the top of the seventh inning drove in Zach Green, breaking a 1-1 tie. Jairo Cardozo singled later in the inning to drive in Cozens, and Logan Pierce added an insurance run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly.

The Williamsport players had two hits. Gustavo Martinez was 2 for 4, as was Green and Cozens.

Green drove in Williamsport’s first run of the game with an RBI?double in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1.

Anderson, who has become the Cutters’ most consistent starter, allowed five hits and one run in five innings. He struck out five.

Rob Marcello picked up his second win, throwing a pair of shutout innings, allowing two hits. Lee Ridenhour earned his second save, striking out four in two innings.

The three Williamsport pitchers combined to shut out Auburn for the final eight innings.

The Cutters return home tonight for a two-game series against Jamestown beginning at 7:05 p.m.
