Cutters open road swing with win

The Williamsport Crosscutters took advantage of two first-inning errors by the Auburn Doubledays on Tuesday night and held on for a 3-2 victory at Falcon Park.

Zach Green (2 for 4) was the lone Crosscutters player with multiple hits.

Green drove in the game’s first run with a first-inning single after Jairo Cardozo reached on an error and moved to second base on a wild pitch.

A second Auburn error in the first inning loaded the bases and a Logan Pierce fielder’s choice turned into an RBI groundout.

Auburn closed to 2-1 in the third inning but Williamsport extended its lead back to two runs with a single run in the sixth.

Auburn closed to within a run again in the seventh inning but Williamsport’s bullpen closed the door over the final two innings.

Shane Martin pitched five effective innings for Williamsport and picked up the win to even his record at 2-2. Martin allowed one earned run and struck out seven. Felix Santos allowed an earned run in his two innings of relief before Manny Martinez and Mark Meadors closed out the game with scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth. Meadors picked up his second save after a 1-2-3 ninth.
