Cutters swept, drop to .500

The Williamsport Crosscutters lost their fourth straight game Monday night, 5-2 at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

The Cutters dropped to .500 with the loss and into a tie for third place in the Pinckney Division. They are 6 games behind first-place Jamestown and two back in what could be a tight wild-card race.

The Cutters collected just three hits and scored runs in the fourth and ninth innings.

Gustavo Martinez stole third and scored in the fourth on a missed throw by Mahoning Valley third baseman Claudio Bautista.

Dylan Cozens hit a solo home run, his fifth of the season, in the top of the ninth.

Jiandido Tromp and Martinez had the Cutters’ other two hits.

Mitch Gueller (3-4) took the loss, allowing four runs and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Rob Marcello and Lee Ridenhour combined on 4 1/3 innings of relief and kept the game within reach.

The Cutters return home four a six-game series beginning tonight, with three games vs. Brooklyn and three more vs. Staten Island.
