Chula Vista among four LLWS berths

Four teams earned spots Saturday in the Little League World Series running Aug. 15-25, leaving just two berths to be decided today.

Teams winning Saturday were Grosse Point Woods Shores LL from Michigan?(Great Lakes), Eastlake LL from Sammamish, Wash., (Northwest), Westport LL?from Westport, Conn., (New England) and?Eastlake LL from Chula Vista, Calif.

Berths to be decided today are the Mid-Atlantic region between Lionville, Pa., and Newark, Del., (6 tonight, ESPN2) and the Canadian regional. Lionville eliminated area entry Keystone in the state semifinals last month.

Grosse Pointe’s Chad Lorkowski belted two home runs and struck out 10 in a 10-3 victory over Jackie Robinson West LL from Chicago in the Great Lakes regional final in Indianapolis.

Jackie Robinson West was trying for its first trip to Williamsport since 1983, but allowed 8 runs in the first 2 innings.

After outscoring its opponents 59-13 in five regional victories, Jackie Robinson West was held without a hit for three innings. The Illinois state champions collected their first hit and first run in the bottom of the third inning after trailing 9-0.

Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores Little League, losers of two games in Indianapolis, touched up Jackie Robinson West Little League’s starting pitcher Jalen Lemons early and often. Through two innings, Lemons surrendered six hits and nine runs on 69 pitches.

Also having a big game at the plate for the Michigan state Champions was Antonio Moceri, who went 2-for-3 with a home run.

This will be the first Michigan LLWS?entry since Jenison in 1998. A Grose Point team reached the 1979 LLWS.

Eastlake LL defeated Billings (Mont.) Big Sky Little League, 13-1 in four innings, to claim the Northwest Region Championship in San Bernardino, Calif. This was the first Sammamish team to even reach a Northwest regional.

Eastlake jumped out to an six-run lead in the bottom of the first. With bases loaded and two runs already in, Austin Oh tripled to centerfield, clearing the bases. Oh finished 2 for 2, driving in 5 runs and scoring once. Washington managed to add another run in the first, and they didn’t look back.

Eastlake scored two runs in the bottom of the second, and five runs in the third. The three and four hitters, Will Armbruester and Jacob Dahlstrom, went a combined 4 for 5, with four RBIs.

Westport, Conn., beat Lincoln, R.I., 1-0, in the New England final in Bristol, Conn.

Chula Vista defeated Belmont, Calif., 9-0 in the West regional final in San Bernardino, Calif. Another Chula Vista team, Park View LL, won the LLWS?title in 2009.
