Cutters drop fifth straight

The Crosscutters continued a 5-game losing skid after falling to the Vermont Lake Monsters on the road Saturday, 4-1.

The Cutters enjoyed a good bit of pitching early on in the contest, as Drew Anderson (5-3) allowed zero runs while striking out four through the game’s first three innings.

However, Vermont captured the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ryan Huck smacked a two-run line drive double to right.

The Crosscutters found life in the top of the fifth, when Corey Bass hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Dylan Cozens.

Following that run, the Lake Monsters plucked starting pitcher Matt Stalcup in favor of right-handed reliever Fernando Cruzado, who retired the side after getting Justin Parr to ground out to first.
