Little League U.S. regional finals begin tonight

The Little League World Series is fast approaching, though no United States team has punched its ticket for the Little League World Series Aug. 15-25 at Lamade and Volunteer Stadiums.

That will change tonight as the Southwest region will crown a champion tonight as Corpus Christi, Texas, plays Las Cruces, N.M., at 8 on ESPN2.

Today also marks a second day of televised semifinals on ESPN channels as the Midwest and Southeast regional tournaments play their semifinals. In the Midwest, Nebraska plays Iowa at noon and Minnesota plays North/South Dakota at 4 on ESPN2. The championship game will be Friday at 1 pm on ESPN. In the Southeast, Stuart, Fla., plays Nashville, Tenn., at 2 and Taylors, S.C., plays Henrico, Va., at 6 on ESPN2.

In the Mid-Atlantic Regional, Pennsylvania state champion Lionville plays New Jersey today at 7 to conclude pool play. Lionville, which eliminated Keystone in the Pennsylvania state semifinals, is 3-0 in pool play after beating Berlin, Md., on Tuesday.

The only berth undecided in the International pool is Canada. The championship game will be played on Sunday. The other winners in the International pool include Taoyuan, Tawian (Asia-Pacific)?Perth Central (Australia), San Lorenzo, P.R., (Caribbean), Brno, Czech Republic (Europe and Africa), Tokyo (Japan), Aguadulce, Panama (Latin America) and Tijuana, Baja California from Mexico.
