ROUNDUP: LHU field hockey rallies for win

The Lock Haven University field hockey team scored three second-half goals and the Lady Eagles dropped Robert Morris, 4-2, Sunday in non-conference action. Lydia George scored the game-winner for Lock Haven (6-2) in the 57th minute and Kelly Harsh’s second goal of the match on a penalty stroke with less than three minutes remaining secured the win over RMU (5-3).

Leigh Hillman tallied her team-high sixth goal of the season and Cassie Lawrence and Abby Watson also scored, but the Bucknell field hockey team could not overcome an early 2-0 deficit and lost to No. 16 Delaware, 4-3. The loss snapped a three-game home winning streak for the Bison, who fell to 4-4 on the year.

Three singles wins for the Lycoming women’s tennis team helped the team make a valiant comeback befor efalling to Alfred, 6-3. Junior Shannon Sheridan notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brennan Ferguson at No. 1 singles and senior Annie Wegman posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bethany Dickerson at No. 6 singles, to help Lycoming (0-3 overall) move within two points.

Lycoming’s men’s tennis team fell to Alfred, 9-0, in non-conference action. Lycoming fell to 0-2 with the loss and Alfred improved to 1-0. Freshman Bryce Jones was just edged out at No. 3 singles, as he won the first set, 7-5, but Alfred’s Mike Graham rebounded to win the second set, setting up a superset tiebreaker, which Graham took, 10-7.

Jack Else equaled his season high with five goals and Mike Kimble added three as the Bucknell center position combined for eight goals, but the Bison men’s water polo team completed its league-opening weekend with a 14-12 loss at Johns Hopkins.

Lycoming junior running back Craig Needhammer rushed for a career-high 182 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lycoming College football team to a 52-14 win against Misericordia on Sept. 21, helping him earn a slot on the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll.
