Roundup: Shore boys beat Mount Carmel

Clay Newton, Evan Jenkins and Zach Tira each scored twice in Jersey Shore’s 8-0 win over Mount Carmel on Tuesday. The Bulldogs outshot Mount Carmel, 33-1.

Milton’s Tyler Porter scored 2 minutes into the second overtime and the Black Panthers overcame a one-goal deficit to beat Williamsport, 2-1. Bryan Cavanaugh scored for the Millionaires.

Muncy won a close game with Montgomery, edging the Red Raiders 2-0. Alex Stabler set the tone for the Indians when he scored in the first three minutes.

Erik Stemcosky and Aaron Dillman netted two goals each as Wellsboro defeated Northern Potter 4-1. Tucker Worthington added two assists in the win.

In boys cross country, Jersey Shore’s Cody Allen placed second overall with a time of 18:12 in a quad meet with Selinsgrove, Milton and Sullivan County. The Bulldogs lost all three meets.

Warrior Run’s Spencer Williamson placed fifth and the Defenders beat Central Columbia (15-50) and Midd-West (16-50), but lost to Mount Carmel (19-38) and Mifflinburg (26-29).

Lewisburg picked up wins over Shamokin and Southern Columbia but lost to a strong Danville squad that placed seven runners in the Top 10. Nick Scullin was Lewisburg’s top finisher, placing third overall with a time of 18:24.

Chet Schwoyer and Greg Johnson finished 1-2 for Williamsport in a quad with Montoursville and Shikellamy at Bloomsburg.

Warrior Run swept a quad-meet with Midd-West, Mount Carmel and Mifflinburg by placing three girls amongst the top-five, including a second-place finish by Lindsey Hartman (21:07).

Danville handed Lewisburg its first loss of the season, 18-45. The Ironmen swept the top four places before Lewisburg’s Jordan Hartzel stopped the run.

Hanna Weber’s second-place time of 20:33 led Williamsport at Blomsburg.

In girls tennis, Wellsboro’s Brianna Quimby won at No. 2 singles and doubles but the Green Hornets fell to Towanda, 5-2.

In men’s soccer, three goals in the first 19 minutes and consistent pressure throughout the game helped Lycoming extend its streak of games without a loss to six, as it posted a 4-0 win over Keystone College. Freshman Alfonce Mutuku scored two of the three goals in the opening 20 minutes to lead the Warriors (5-2-1 overall) as they surpassed its 2012 win total. The six games without a loss (5-0-1) is the longest stretch for the Warriors since the 2007 team went on a six-game winning streak.

Lock Haven’s Trent Burris scored in the 53rd minute but the Bald Eagles fell to NYIT, 4-1.

Luke McFalls scored two goals to help the Penn College to a 4-1 victory over Penn State Beaver. The Wildcats outshot Beaver 42-6.

In women’s soccer, Madilyn Walters and Sadie Bebko and Kelsea Robbins each recorded two goals to help Penn College 11-0 over Penn State Beaver.

In women’s volleyball, Lycoming’s Katelyn McKillop and and Amber Seibel came up with big kills in the fifth set to lead the Warriors to a 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 16-14) win over Albright.

In women’s basketball, Mansfield coach Allison Tagliaferri announced her first recruiting class and it includes three area players. The group of nine includes Jersey Shore’s Kayla Allen, Lewisburg’s Maria Kelleher and Mansfield’s Molly Wood.

“I’m very optimistic about the incoming class and look forward to what they’ll bring to the program,” Tagliaferri said in a released statement. “We have a great group of freshmen and transfers joining us who will make an immediate impact on the court.”

Roundup: Shore boys beat Mount Carmel

Clay Newton, Evan Jenkins and Zach Tira each scored twice in Jersey Shore’s 8-0 win over Mount Carmel on Tuesday. The Bulldogs outshot Mount Carmel, 33-1.

Milton’s Tyler Porter scored 2 minutes into the second overtime and the Black Panthers overcame a one-goal deficit to beat Williamsport, 2-1. Bryan Cavanaugh scored for the Millionaires.

Muncy won a close game with Montgomery, edging the Red Raiders 2-0. Alex Stabler set the tone for the Indians when he scored in the first three minutes.

Erik Stemcosky and Aaron Dillman netted two goals each as Wellsboro defeated Northern Potter 4-1. Tucker Worthington added two assists in the win.

In boys cross country, Jersey Shore’s Cody Allen placed second overall with a time of 18:12 in a quad meet with Selinsgrove, Milton and Sullivan County. The Bulldogs lost all three meets.

Warrior Run’s Spencer Williamson placed fifth and the Defenders beat Central Columbia (15-50) and Midd-West (16-50), but lost to Mount Carmel (19-38) and Mifflinburg (26-29).

Lewisburg picked up wins over Shamokin and Southern Columbia but lost to a strong Danville squad that placed seven runners in the Top 10. Nick Scullin was Lewisburg’s top finisher, placing third overall with a time of 18:24.

Chet Schwoyer and Greg Johnson finished 1-2 for Williamsport in a quad with Montoursville and Shikellamy at Bloomsburg.

In girls cross country, Jersey Shore’s Beatrice Ferguson placed fourth out of 32 runners with a time of 23:50. The Bulldogs defeated Milton (15-50) but lost to Sullivan County (24-31) and Selinsgrove (19-36).

Warrior Run swept a quad-meet with Midd-West, Mount Carmel and Mifflinburg by placing three girls amongst the top-five, including a second-place finish by Lindsey Hartman (21:07).

Danville handed Lewisburg its first loss of the season, 18-45. The Ironmen swept the top four places before Lewisburg’s Jordan Hartzel stopped the run.

Hanna Weber’s second-place time of 20:33 led Williamsport at Blomsburg.

In girls tennis, Wellsboro’s Brianna Quimby won at No. 2 singles and doubles but the Green Hornets fell to Towanda, 5-2.

In men’s soccer, three goals in the first 19 minutes and consistent pressure throughout the game helped Lycoming extend its streak of games without a loss to six, as it posted a 4-0 win over Keystone College. Freshman Alfonce Mutuku scored two of the three goals in the opening 20 minutes to lead the Warriors (5-2-1 overall) as they surpassed its 2012 win total. The six games without a loss (5-0-1) is the longest stretch for the Warriors since the 2007 team went on a six-game winning streak.

Lock Haven’s Trent Burris scored in the 53rd minute but the Bald Eagles fell to NYIT, 4-1.

Luke McFalls scored two goals to help the Penn College to a 4-1 victory over Penn State Beaver. The Wildcats outshot Beaver 42-6.

In women’s soccer, Madilyn Walters and Sadie Bebko and Kelsea Robbins each recorded two goals to help Penn College 11-0 over Penn State Beaver.

In women’s volleyball, Lycoming’s Katelyn McKillop and and Amber Seibel came up with big kills in the fifth set to lead the Warriors to a 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 16-14) win over Albright.

In women’s basketball, Mansfield coach Allison Tagliaferri announced her first recruiting class and it includes three area players. The group of nine includes Jersey Shore’s Kayla Allen, Lewisburg’s Maria Kelleher and Mansfield’s Molly Wood.

“I’m very optimistic about the incoming class and look forward to what they’ll bring to the program,” Tagliaferri said in a released statement. “We have a great group of freshmen and transfers joining us who will make an immediate impact on the court.”
