Local roundup: Montour girls win HAC-I
Montoursville’s Carly Mill scored two second-half goals and the Warriors clinched the HAC-I title with a 2-1 victory over Williamsport on Thursday night.
Williamsport broke on top in the first half on a goal by Erica Ludwikowski.
Montoursville, which closes the regular season with a non-conference game at Athens on Saturday, finishes the HAC-I schedule 12-1-1.
Corrine Shaffer scored four goals and assisted on another as Montgomery defeated St. John?Neumann, 6-2.
Alivia Braunback scored at the 7:49 mark, and Allison Russell made two saves as Hughesville qualified for the District 4 playoffs with a 1-0 win over Shamokin. The Spartans outshot Shamokin, 13-5.
In boys soccer, Ben Hillman scored in the second overtime to give Williamsport a season-ending 2-1 win over Milton. It was the second win of the year for the Millionaires who do not have a senior in the starting lineup. Terrence Hillman scored Williamsport’s first goal.
Tyler Webb-Verbeski, Donovan Keen and Donovan Killian each scored a goal and added an assist as South Williamsport beat Montgomery, 6-1. Aaron Wines scored the Red Raiders’ lone goal.
In girls tennis, local teams garnered seven of the eight top seeds for the District 4 tennis doubles tournament to be held Saturday at Williamsport High School. Hughesville’s team of Courtney McCowan and Kierra Croucher are the No. 2 seed, and Loyalsock’s team of Kim Levy and Sarah Malone garnered the third seed. Fresh off a semifinals appearance in the singles tournament, Bucktail’s Maria Morgan has teamed up with Abby Ransom and the two are the fourth seed.
In college volleyball, with the help of 33 kills and 24 aces, Penn College swept Penn State Scranton 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-13). Junior Courtney Gernert led all Penn College hitters with 17 kills and added 11 aces.
