Roundup: Loyalsock, Hughesville advance in District 4 AA?girls team tennis

Loyalsock advanced to the District 4 Class AA team tennis semifinals with a 3-2 victory over Danville on Tuesday afternoon at Bloomsburg University. Sarah Malone won a three-set match at No. 3 singles to secure the victory. Malone dropped the first set 6-2 before rallying in the next two sets, 6-4, 6-1.

The Lancers (15-2) will play Bloomsburg next Tuesday at Bloomsburg University. The Lancers and Panthers split their two meetings this year.

Milton defeated Towanda 3-1, sweeping the doubles. No. 1 singles was pulled after one set since the winning team had been determined.. Milton moved on to play Hughesville but lost 3-0. Courtney McCann won No. 1 singles and Kierra Creucher won No. 2 singles. Some other matches were also not completed.

Also, Montgomery beat Cowanesque Valley in the first round before falling to Bloomsburg in the second round.

In the District 2-4 AAA?doubles tournament Tuesday in Wilkes-Barre’s Kirby Park, Liz Nash and Isabel Bauer, the top seeds from Williamsport, advnced to the semifinals to be held today. They’re joined in the semifinals by Sara Danley and Erin Engel of Jersey Shore.

Nash and Bauer had a first-round bye, beat Kristen Denniston and Savannah Brunnette of Wallenpaupack, 6-0, 6-0, and then Abby Fisch and Devin Zombek of Scranton 6-4, 7-6 (2). Today’s opponent is Emily Pocius and Cara Perrotti, the fifth seeds from North Pocono.

Amanda Southard and Taryn Peacock of WHS won the opening round and lost in the second round. As No. 6 seeds, the beat Stephanie Roa and Bridgette Washburne of Wallenpaupack 6-4, 6-0, before falling to Danley and Engel, 6-1, 6-4.

Danley and Engel, the No. 3 seeds, beat Laura Monto and Emily Coslet of Valley West, 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.

Danley and Engel’s semifinal is vs. No. 7 Dana Schneider and Alia Sod of Coughlin.

In boys soccer, Dalton Litzelman scored two goals, including off a corner kick, as Liberty blanked Northern Potter, 2-0. The Mounties (8-7) need one win in their final three games to reach districts.

Dan Brooks scored 2 goals and added an assist as Wellsboro defeated Northeast Bradford 6-0. Tucker Worthington added two assists in the win.

In girls soccer, Katie Harlacher and Carly Mill each scored in the 38th minute as Montoursville defeated Selinsgrove 2-0. With the win Montoursville is now 11-1-1.

Allie Pagana netted 3 goals and added 2 assists as Loyalsock defeated Mount Carmel 6-1. Ally Kennedy added 2 assists, Angie Cardillo added two goals and an assist and Alonna Soars scored a goal in her first game of the year on senior night.

Brooke Kohler, Brynn Ripley and Laura Bleggi each had a goal as Wellsboro defeated Wyalusing 3-0. Meghan Bodine made 5 saves in the win.

Miranda Young scored 3 goals as South Williamsport defeated Muncy 4-1. Muncy’s Carly DeVore scored her 47th career goal in the loss.

Amy Southard and Erica Ludwikowski scored in Williamsport’s 2-1 win over Shiekllamy.

Warrrior Run and Hughesville tied 0-0, despite Warrior Run outshooting the Spartans, 17-4.

In girls volleyball Canton defeated Cowanesque Valley 3-1, despite losing the first set. Becky Plummer had 13 assists for CV and Whitney Earl and Chandler Mastin each added 4 kills for CV.

In mens soccer, Connor McNiff and Adam Kuntz each scored as Lycoming defeated Lebanon Valley 2-0. It was Lycoming’s first win against Lebanon Valley since 2008. Lock haven defeated Chestnut Hill 2-0 on goals scored by Tyler Weikert and Jacob Oldaker on a penalty kick.

In womens soccer Lock Haven defeated Molloy 3-1. Sam Biondi, Sarah Bonelli and Katie Eichman all scored for Lock Haven.

In womens volleyball, Lycoming defeated Widener 3-0. Bethany Richardson had 18 kills, Katelyn McKillop had 41 of the 44 assists and Kristin Whitehead had 10 digs for the Lady Warriors.

Pitt-Johnstown defeated Lock Haven 3-0. Kaleigh Hudak had 11 kills and Jessica Brown had 30 assists in the loss.
