O’Brien to interview with Texans

Penn State coach Bill O’Brien will interview for the Houston Texans head coaching position, according to a report Thursday night by

O’Brien’s name already had been linked as a potential candidate for the Texans job, and the report said he would be interviewed by the team after Christmas. The report went on to add the interview “already happened or it will happen in the near future.”

Ian Rapoport of said sources have told him that O’Brien is “very high on [the Texans’] radar.”

The Texans fired coach Gary Kubiak on Dec. 6 and have the worst record in the NFL at 2-13, but they are considered by many to be a team that could turn things around in a hurry next year under the right coach.

O’Brien has three years remaining on his Penn State contract, and the buyout if he were to leave for an NFL job is about $6.7 million.
