Local roundup: Montoursville girls advance to face Mount Carmel
Kelsey Stine scored 12 points and Kirsten O’Malley added 10 as Montoursville dominated the second half Friday at Wyalusing and won its District 4 Class AA quarterfinal, 50-39. The Warriors allowed just one third-quarter point, erased a 3-point halftime deficit and are semifinal bound for the first time since 2002, vs. Mount Carmel.
Mount Carmel parlayed consecutive turnovers and baskets by Ali Varano plus a huge 3-pointer by Paige Hornung to highlight a 13-3 run late in the first half to break open a 66-39 win over South Williamsport.
In Class A?boys, Galeton jumped out to a 33-9 halftime lead and never looked back in beating Millville, 54-33.
Connor Wylie led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Sullivan County advanced, 50-38 past Lourdes.
Brady Andrews’ only field goal beat the buzzer in Mansfield’s thrilling win over North Penn, 56-55.
