Sara McMann TKO’d in first round by Ronda Rousey
Sara McMann lost to Ronda Rousey Saturday night by TKO in 1:06 of the first round in their mixed martial arts women’s bantamweight title fight of UFC 170 in Las Vegas.
Rousey dropped McMann with a left knee to the liver, one of several she landed during their fight, as the two were locked together against the cage.
“I thought it was a good fight, but I got hit in the liver,” said McMann (7-1), a Lock Haven University graduate. “No matter how hard you train you can’t get the liver stronger. I’ll go back to the drawing board, try to get a rematch, and hopefully come back with a better fight.”
Rousey (9-0) had won all previous matches with an armbar finish.
“We noticed that we wanted to go to the body and in the bent posture, concentrate on the lower shot,” said Rousey.
The match was billed as a winner of Olympic medalists, as McMann won a silver in wrestling in 2004, and Rousey won a bronze for judo in 2008.
