Local roundup: Mansfield's LeClair hits 4 HRs

Johnny LeClair hit four home runs, including a grand slam, and had 11 RBIs to lead Mansfield to a doubleheader sweep over Penn College in the Mountaineers home season opener Tuesday afternoon at Shaute Field.

Mansfield (12-5) won the first game 7-3 behind LeClair’s 3-run home run and LeClair hit three more home runs, including a grand slam, in a 19-5 win the nightcap.

The Mountaineer pounded out 25 hits in the two games and hit six home runs. The 19 runs scored in the second game were the most runs for a Mountaineer team since scoring 21 runs in a win over Lake Erie in 2010.

In boys tennis, Cowanesque Valley went on to get its first conference win, 7-0, over Williamson. Chandler Maston set the tone with a 6-0 6-0 victory.

In softball, Hughesville started its season in dominating fashion, winning 16-0 over Lewisburg. Justine Yeager had a grand slam and Keirsten Schrimer added two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Loyalsock sophomore Kayle Gee struck out eight and the Lancers opened their season with a 7-3 win over defending District 4 Class AA champion Warrior Run.

In high school lacrosse, Lewisburg’s Matt Fedorjaka scored eight goals as the Green Dragons defeated Mifflinburg, 14-1. Drew Strosser added three goals for Lewisburg (2-0).

In women’s lacrosse, Lock Haven snapped a two-game skid with a 15-6 win at Edinboro.

Taylor Klunk and Jessica Pandolf combined for eight goals for the Lady Eagles.
