WHS boys 3200 team third at Shippensburg invite

The Williamsport boys placed third in the 3,200-meter Class AAA relay at the Shippensburg Jack Roddick High School Invitational on Saturday. The Millionaires quartet of Liam McGarvey, Wes Cuozzo, Greg Johnson and Chet Schwoyer finished in 8 minutes, 34.80 seconds. Whitehall won the race in 8:07.02. Conner Oldt was sixth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.59. James Waters of CD East won the event in 14.81.

The Williamsport girls placed fourth in the Class AAA 400-meter relay with the team of Ge’Zoriea Amos, Natalie Griffin, Heaven Maeshack and Ariel Williams. The Millionaires ran a 50.69, while winning Easton finished in 50.55. Amos came back and joined Jaid Harsch, Serena Sarch and Hannah Weber to place eighth in the 1,600-meter relay, finishing in 4:16.0.

Wellsboro’s Dan Brooks was fifth in the Class AA 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.53 seconds. Darrin Sipes of Tussey Mountain won the race in 11.26. The Green Hornet came back and placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 23.74. Brooks was also a member of the 400-meter relay team that placed seventh after running a time of 47.10. Joe Doganeiro placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 51.84 and helped the 1,600-meter relay team to a seventh-place finish, a spot ahead of Lewisburg.

Blake Gamble gave Wellsboro a point in a field event, placing eighth in the shot put.

Joey Bhangdia was sixth in the 800 and Nick Scullin sixth in the 1,600 for Lewisburg. Scullin also took the rare opportunity to run the 2,000-meter steeplechase and he made the best of it with a winning time of 6:32.29. Scullin and Bhangdia led the 3,200-meter relay to a first-place finish, putting up a time of 8:20.56.

Anthony Bach placed fourth in the 3,200 (10:20.52) and Nick Costagliola seventh in the javelin. The Green Dragons finished with 34 points, good enough for ninth place.

The Wellsboro girls finished seventh in the team standings in Class AA out of 29 teams. The Green Hornets had 29 1/2 points. Boiling Springs won with 101.

Sprinters Jada Jackson (7th, 100) and Lauren Bleggi (8th, 200) each finished in the Top 8 in their events. Jackson was also fourth in the 400 and third in the triple jump.

Haley Zuchowski was eighth in the 100 hurdles and Raisa Rogers tied for fourth with two other jumpers in the high jump. Kaelyn Keane placed seventh in the javelin.

A pair of Wellsboro relay teams – the 400 and 1,600 – placed fifth.
