Local roundup: South opens with win in D12 Major Baseball

Chris Klem was 4-for-4 with a double and triple in the leadoff spot, and Nathan Persun hit the go-ahead RBI in an 8-run fifth inning as South Williamsport beat Muncy, 14-8, to open the District 12 Major Baseball tournament Monday night at South Williamsport.

Elsewhere, Newberry beat Montgomery 12-2.

In Major Softball, South Williamsport reached Thursday’s Major Softball title game vs. Williamsport with a 2-1 victory over Clinton. South scored twice in the fifth inning and Lexi Schuler stranded 10 Clinton baserunners in the win.
