Cutters finish sweep with 12-inning win
In its first extra-inning game of the year, the William-sport Crosscutters’ offense came alive late to sweep the Jamestown Jammers, for the second time this season, with a 7-3 win in 12 innings on Thursday night.
The Cutters have won three straight games on the road and are back above .500 for the first time since June 19.
The Cutters led 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning until a fielding error helped the Jammers plate three runs to tie the game.
The Cutters bullpen of Frank Rivas, Manny Martinez and Joey Denato pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits and no runs.
Cord Sandberg led off the 12th with a solo home run, his third of the year. After a fielder’s choice and a walk, Matt Shortall belted a three-run home run to make it 7-3 Cutters.
Denato pitched a scoreless bottom half and struck out Jamestowns’ final batter.
