Cutters snap their 3-game skid
After giving up a three-run lead the night before, the Williamsport Crosscutters weren’t going to let that happen Friday night. Williamsport avoided its longest losing streak of the year and avoided a sweep from the Staten Island Yankess with its 6-3 win Friday night.
Williamsport got off to a quick start in snapping a 3-game skid, scoring two first-inning two-out runs on Matt Shortall’s RBI single that scored Aaron Brown, who got the offense going with a double. Wilmer Oberto followed with a ground-rule double to make it 2-0.
Heading into the seventh inning, the game was tied at 3 until Drew Stankiewicz brought home Chase Harris with a single. Williamsport added two more runs in the eighth on Wilson Garcia’s line-drive single and Harris followed with another single to make it 6-3.
Williamsport had four errors, but the strong pitching kept the Yankees down. Chris Oliver pitched the first three innings of one-hit ball and after Feliberto Sanchez gave up two runs in two innings of work, Bryan Sova and Frank Rivas combined to pitch the final four innings of the game, allowing no runs and striking out three.
The Crosscutters stay in New York tonight as they start a 3-game series against Brooklyn before returning home.
