Lyco football just outside Top 25 in preseason poll

Coming off the school’s 15th Middle Atlantic Conference title and with six USA Football Network Preseason All-Americans returning, the Lycoming College football team will enter the 2014 season receiving the most votes in a Preseason Poll in a decade, as the team received 34 votes on Wednesday in the initial poll.

It is the seventh consecutive year the Warriors have received a vote in the poll, with the 34 votes the most the team has picked up in the preseason poll since the 2004 Warriors were ranked 21st with 184 votes.

The Warriors are listed fourth in the Others Receiving Votes portion of the poll, sitting behind Milsaps, Illinois Wesleyan and Maryville. No other Middle Atlantic Conference school received a vote.

Defending national champion Wis.-Whitewater topped the poll unanimously, while Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mount Union, Linfield and Wesley round out the top five.

This is not the first preseason recognition for the Warriors, as they are ranked 11th in the Sporting News Top 25 and senior defensive back Tanner Troutman was named a first-team preseason All-American by the Sporting News, Lindy’s College Football and the USA College Football Network.

The Warriors rose as high as 24th in the national poll and earned votes during three weeks during the 2013 season. In 2012, the squad picked up votes and during three weeks in 2011.

The 2013 Warriors finished 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the MAC under sixth-year head coach Mike Clark.
