Williamsport Section 3 Major Softball champs

Lynna Robertson threw a brilliant two-hitter that included 11 strikeouts Saturday in Minersville as Williamsport defeated Wellsboro, 2-1, and captured the Section 3 Major Division championship. Williamsport finished the tournament undefeated and plays Thursday in the state tournament in Greensburg.

“They deserve it. They put in a lot of hard work,” Williamsport coach Rick Robertson said. “We’re looking forward to going to states and making the area proud.”

Williamsport scored two second-inning runs to erase a 1-0 deficit and Robertson dominated from there. Kathy Kassyniabas went 1 for 1 with an RBI while Sammi Reeder had a big RBI sacrifice. Mackenna Workman went 1 for 2.

Williamsport celebrated briefly on the field after the game but the big celebration came an hour or so later when the team went to Knoebel’s. If Williamsport wins its next tournament expect an even bigger celebration.

“I’ve coached a lot of these girls since they were 9 and they play real well together,” Robertson said. “They are jelling at the right time.”
