Cutters win on the road

The Williamsport Crosscutters won their second straight Saturday, 3-2 at Lowell.

Jan Hernandez hit a solo home run to tie the game in the seventh inning before Derek Campbell’s 2-out single in the eighth scored Cord Sandberg for the go-ahead run.

Winning pitcher Jessen Therrien, Scott Harris, and Matt Hockenberry combined for 5 innnings of shutout relief, allowing one hit, one walk, while striking out five.

David Whitehead allowed 8 hits and two runs, one unearned, in four innings for the no-decision. Lowell scored on a first-inning sac fly and second-inning throwing error by Sandberg.

Chase Harris singled home Wilson Garcia for the Cutters in the fourth. Garcia finished 2-for-4 with a double.

The Crosscutters will send four players to the 2014 NYPL All-Star Game in Brooklyn on Aug. 19, in pitchers Mitch Gueller andDavid Whitehead, Campbell and outfielder Jiandido Tromp.
