Hoskins helps Cutters to win

Rhys Hoskins hit his eighth home run of the year, and Calvin Rayburn converted his ninth save in 10 opportunities as the Williamsport Crosscutters beat the Auburn Doubledays, 4-3, on Saturday.

The Cutters were eliminated from the Pinckney Division race yesterday with State College’s win over Jamestown. Williamsport is six games behind Brooklyn for the NYPL?Wild Card with nine games to play.

Hoskins’ eighth home run of the season came in the second inning and gave Williamsport a 1-0 lead. The Cutters added to the lead in the seventh inning with a Hoskins RBI?double, and a Jose Pujols RBI.

Auburn tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh with three runs off reliever Matt Hockenberry, but Wilson Garcia drove in a run for Williamsport with a groundout in the top of the eighth for a 4-3 lead.

In his first start since pitching in the NYPL?All-Star game, David Whitehead threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two.
