West End semifinal now today
Heavy rain and lighting rolled in Tuesday evening around 6:30. Soon after Logue Field, the site of the Babe Ruth Middle Atlantic Regional, was flooded and the game between Mt. Olive, N.J. and Rotterdam, N.Y. had to be cut short with five outs remaining and the game between West End and Nottingham, N.J., that was to follow the Mt. Olive-Rotterdam game was postponed.
Mt. Olive and Rotterdam will resume play today at 11 and West End and Nottingham will play at 1. The championship game will still be played at 5.
Two games were played Tuesday before the field turned into a pond, Mt. Olive and Altoona played, with Mt. Olive winning 10-5 and Nottingham took the other game 14-4 over Levittown.
After falling behind 1-0, Mt. Olive scored seven second-inning runs and after Altoona cut the lead to 7-5 in the sixth inning, Mt. Olive scored the final three runs. Altoona out-hit Mt. Olive 11-10 but had four errors. Alex Tucker had two hits, a triple and two RBIs and Michael Buzzelli and Kyle Helmlinger added two hits apiece for Mt. Olive.
Nottingham also fell behind early, but scored eight runs in the third and five more in the fifth and sixth. David Scott and Tristen Spadda added two hits apiece and Thomas Kozemahek and Alex Coleman added two RBIs.
Mt. Olive jumped over undefeated Rotterdam early, scoring five second-inning runs and led by seven late. But Rotterdam scored two runs and have runners on first and second with only one out in the seventh.
