Local roundup: Williamsport tennis earns win

Maggie Manchester played as well as you can on the court, easily defeating Central Mountain’s Jolee McCloskey, 6-0, 6-0, as the Millionaires swept the Wildcats in a 5-0 win on Thursday afternoon.

Isabel Bauer won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Central Mountain’s Quinn McCloskey while Amanda Southard picked up a win at No. 3 singles over Rachel Wasilko, 6-0, 6-1.

Diana Quezada and Taryn Peacock won at No. 1 doubles while Alisha Chen and Kathleen Kinley won at No. 2.

The Millionaires improved to 5-0 with the victory.

Montoursville’s Autumn Hall defeated Lewisburg’s Erin Devine, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, but two Lewisburg wins in doubles competition helped the Green Dragons earn the 3-2 win over the Warriors.

Sydney Hartzel and Shannon Loftus won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2, while Natalie Smyth and Samantha Reed won at No. 2 doubles.

Danville won all three singles’ matches as it defeated Milton, 3-2. Milton’s duo of Maggie Wetzel and Taylor Wolfe won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-3 while Carissa Wagner and Chelsea Buck won at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.

Muncy’s Maggie Rymsza won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles over Montgomery’s Megan Bartlett, but the Red Raiders won everywhere else, as Montgomery got the victory, 4-1.

Anya Plotnikova won at No. 1 singles and Monique McLaughlin and Rachel Kita won at No. 2 doubles in 3 sets, as South Williamsport stayed unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Bloomsburg.

Hughesville took all but No. 1 singles in a 4-1 victory over Loyalsock. Pam Niditich won 6-0, 6-0. at No 1 singles for the Lancers over Rachel Thomas.

North Penn-Liberty stayed undefeated with a 7-0 victory over Galeton. Jourdyn Buckheit won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Elijah Hoffman recorded an unassisted goal just three minutes into overtime after 80 minutes of scoreless action to give Southern Columbia a 1-0 victory over South Williamsport.

The Mounties (0-2) out-shot the Tigers (3-1) in the loss. South Williamsport hosts Montoursville on Saturday.

Montoursville earned its second win of the season with a, 2-1, win over Mifflinburg. Noah Black had an assist and a goal for the Warriors offense, while Calen Ulmer helped the defense out with 12 saves at keeper.

Lucas Shultz scored three goals for Sullivan County, as the Griffins topped Mt. Carmel, 4-1. With the win, Sullivan County improves to a .500 record.

Seth Burk scored twice, including off a penalty kick in the second half, as Shikellamy blanked Milton, 2-0, to hand the BLack Panthers their first loss of the season.

In cross country, Northeast Bradford’s Lydia Werner led the pack on the girls side at Wyalusing’s meet, finishing 20:47.50. Canton’s Randi Jennings placed fourth while Wellsboro’s Jada JAckson took fifth. Wellsboro’s team finished second, behind Northeast Bradford.

On the boys side, Northeast Bradford was just as successful, as Levi Upham took first. Canton’s Brennan Gleckner placed fourth while Wyalusing’s Jordan Schools was fifth. Northeast Bradford placed first as a team, followed by Wyalusing, Athens and Canton, respectively.

In high school volleyball, Canton dropped Cowanesque Valley 3-2. The loss drops Cowanesque Valley to 1-2 on the season, but they maintain a 1-1 record in the NTL.
