Local roundup: Shore boys let 11-point lead slip away

Jersey Shore led by 11 points midway through the third quarter before slowly seeing its lead slip away as Shikellamy came back to win, 59-50, on Wednesday night in boys basketball.

Brody Smith led the Bulldogs (6-3) with 16 points. Brandon Thompson added 12.

Jersey Shore hosts Central Mountain on Friday.

  • Galeton stormed out to a 16-point lead after the first quarter en route to a 55-39 win over Oswayo Valley in girls basketball.

Latascia Shadle led Galeton wtih 21 points. Makaya Shadle and?Amanda Cizek each added 10 points.

Mary?Monoski scored a team-high 10 points for Central Mountain, but Central Mountain remained winless after a 58-33 loss to?Mifflinburg.

Kayla Kline led Mifflinburg with 23 points.

Liberty’s Chelsea Repard scored 19 points, but Northeast Bradford defeated Liberty, 74-43.

Liberty fell behind 21-8 after the first quarter.

Sparked by the hot-hand of Maci Bower (21 points, 5-8 fts), Millville managed to jump out to a comfortable 40-22 lead at halftime against Neumann. However, late in the fourth quarter, Millville would see its lead dwindle to just four behind a gutsy second-half effort by the Golden Knights.

In the end, it would be the Quakers who displayed their resiliency fending SJNRA’s late run to etch out the victory, 64-56.

SJNRA’s Megan Helminiak played a terrific game, leading all scorers with 27 points, including four 3-pointers, while teammate, Destiny Hill, added 10 points for the Golden Knights.

Cellina Salvatori scored a game-high 19 points for the Lancers as Loyalsock defeated South Williamsport, 40-33.

Anna Steer scored 12 points and Alana Stugart added 11 more, including three 3-pointers, but it would not be enough as South Williamsport looks to bounce back at home against Mount Carmel this Saturday.

Central Columbia made the most of its chances from the line, 10-16 fts, as they cruised to victory over Hughesville, 40-23.

Central Columbia’s Lindsey Carl led all scorers with 16 points to help Central Columbia bounce back from its loss against Danville earlier in the week. With the win, the Blue?Jays improve to 7-3 on the year.

On Saturday, Hughesville will look to pick up a win as they travel to Loyalsock to take on the Lancers at 7:30 pm

Akilah Mcfadden scored 18 points and Kirsten Blakeslee flirted with a double-double, nine points, nine rebounds, for the Green Dragons as Lewisburg defeated Milton, 45-38.

Lewisburg managed to erase 15-11 deficit at halftime, exploding for 19 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the fourth to improve to 6-3 on the year.

Thomas Moore scored a team-high 15 points for Mansfield but it wouldn’t be enough to counter a 27-point performance from Jean Onana as Mercyhurst cruised to a 78-58 win over the Mountaineers in a PSAC crossover contest in men’s basketball.

Mansfield, especially leading scorers Charles Pemberton and Joe Bell, struggled to get on track in the game and find their rhythm.

Lancaster Bible College knocked off Penn College, 77-57, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats fell to 1-3, 2-8 in the conference.

Lock Haven got strong individual efforts from Nate Walters and Wali Hepburn, but it wasn’t enough to spark the Bald Eagles past Edinboro as the Fighting Scots won, 90-63.

Katie Fitzpatrick scored 12 points and set a record for steals in a game for Mansfield but nothing could cool down a red-hot Mercyhurst in the first half as the Lakers rolled to a 75-36 win in a PSAC crossover contest on Wednesday in women’s basketball.

Mercyhurst hit six of its first seven shots en route to a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game.

Penn College got a double-double performance out of South?Williamsport grad Jamie Steer, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Wildcats, as Penn College fell on the road to Lancaster Bible on Wednesday, 87-54.

Steer ended the night with 12 points and a team-best 13 rebounds for Penn?College (3-5, 2-2 North Eastern?Athletic Conference).

Loren Kaiser netted a career-high 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to spark the Lock Haven University women, as the Lady Eagles dropped their final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game of the season at Edinboro University, 74-50.

Loyalsock grad Sami?Lane added five points, four boards and a team-high four assists.

Bucknell went into a tough place to play and hung on for a 77-71 win at Lafayette in Patriot League action.
