Local roundup: Lancers hand Milton softball its first defeat

Loyalsock handed Milton’s softball tema its first loss of the year Monday as the Lancers won in 10 innings, 4-2. Kayla Gee pitched the complete game with 10 strikeouts and Kendall Watkins was intentionally walked to get to Sam Stopper whose two-out three-run double in the top of the 10th inning gave Loyalsock the lead for good and was able to hold off a two-run rally by Milton in the bottom half of the 10th. Kylie Brouse struck out 18 for Milton.

Wellsboro won 1-0 in 10 innings at Jersey Shore in a non-league game of defending District 4 champions. Sydney Tremper had two hits in the win.

Ellie Watts pitched and Emily Watts caught the full eight innings and the sisters teamed up for the game’s lone run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Hughesville defeated Muncy, 1-0. Ellie pitched the four-hitter and had a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth that scored Emily who had just gotten on with her own two-out double. Kat Ebner pitched a complete game and struck out 10 for Muncy.

Anne Weller pitched a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts and no walks as Neumann defeated Montgomery, 5-0. Weller also had three hits, a triple and an RBI while Shayna McNamee had two hits, a triple and an RBI.

Makaya Shadle struck out 15 and gave up just four hits as Galeton defeated Otto-Eldred, 6-3. Cortney Parsell led Galeton with three hits while Laura Parsell added two hits and two runs.

North Penn-Liberty exploded for 12 runs in the finals three innings as it beat Sayre, 15-4. Brooke Harvey led NP-L with three hits and four RBIs.

In high school baseball, Hughesville broke open a tied game in the top of the fourth inning and scored 10 runs en route to a 15-6 win over Shamokin. Five Hughesville players had multi-hit games, led by Zach Fry who was 4 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

South WIlliamsport took control early as it routed Bucktail, 17-0. Aaron Guerrisky, AJ Flick, Hunter Finn and Ashton Martin all had multi-RBI games.

Owen Kiess and Nolan Ott combined on the two-hit shutout as Montoursville defeated Troy, 6-0. Ott also had two hits and an RBI and Preston Shearer added two RBIs.

Williamsport scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to break the tie and those two runs would be enough as Williamsport beat Mifflinburg, 4-2. Jalen Jackson earned the complete-game win.

Sullivan County scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close game and beat St. John Neumann, 7-3. Jake Doyle and Luke Shultz each had a pair of hits for Sullivan. Isaac Beiter was 2 for 4 for Neumann.

In college softball, Penn College dropped a pair of games in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball National Championship on the first day of the tournament. The Wildcats fell to Penn State Brandywine, 5-3, in the opener before dropping an 8-0 decision to NHTI in the first round of the consolation bracket. Penn College, 17-20, will play Maine-Presque Isle at 2 today in the ninth-place consolation game.
