Local roundup: Lewisburg, Galeton into team tennis semis

In the District 4 team tennis tournament, two-time defending Class AA champion and No. 1 seed Galeton moved on to the semifinals of the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Montoursville to face Danville, who was a 3-2 winner over Central Columbia yesterday.

On the bottom half of the bracket, No. 2 seed Selinsgrove narrowly defeated Mifflinburg, 3-2, to move on to the semifinals, while No. 3 seed Lewisburg cruised past Cowanesque Valley with a 5-0 win.

The semifinals and finals of the District 4 team tournament conclude today at Bloomburg University with the semifinals starting at 3 p.m. and the finals shortly afterwards.

In high school softball, Warrior Run defeated Southern Columbia, 7-2, thanks to two hits each from Gabby Heiss, Megan?Herriman and?Madie Majcher.

The Defenders (9-5) host Montoursville on?Friday.

After Canton took a 3-run lead in the top of the fourth inning, Wyalusing responded by scoring five runs in the final four innings to defeat Canton, 8-7.

Canton was led by Brooke Ward, Alexa Roy and?Caitlin?Pepper, who all had two hits each. Wyalusing’s Erin?Canfield was 2 for 4.

Darci Warriner had a three-run home run and five RBIs, while Alyssa Yungwirth struck out 11 batters as Wellsboro cruised to a 12-0 win over Williamson in five innings.

Mikayla Aldenderfer pitched her second consecutive complete game win in the circle as Williamsport defeated Shikellamy, 6-3. Chloe Jennings and Kaylee Hornberger combined for five hits in the win.

Katie Cowfer pitched a six-hitter to lead Jersey Shore to a 4-1 win over Danville. Jess Allen had a homerun and Gabby Vuocolo added two hits for Jersey Shore.

Galeton lost its first game of the season as it fell to Smethport, 3-1. Ashley Cizek led Galeton with two hits.

North Penn-Liberty took the 3-1 lead in the top of the eighth but Northeast Bradford rallied with three runs in the bottom half to win, 4-3.

Savanna Doney pitched a complete game and Lauren Smith had a two-run single in the top of the eighth for NPL.

In high school baseball, Dawson Prough ripped off three doubles and had three RBIs, while James Mundy pitched three innings in relief to earn the win as Wellsboro edged Williamson, 7-6.

Jersey Shore’s Allen Saar scored Lane Hale in the the top of the eighth inning to defeat Bald Eagle Area, 1-0.

Aaron Orgitano had a pair of hits, two RBIs and two runs as South Williamsport defeated Benton, 14-11.

J.P. Shaw threw a complete-game one-hitter and added three hits to lead North Penn-Mansfield to an 11-0 win over Northeast Bradford. NP-Mansfield scored nine runs in the final two innings.
