Muncy baseball tops Millville; Liberty softball to districts

Hunter Dunlap went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to help lift Muncy to a 6-5 win over Millville. Andrew Keller was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Muncy (13-5) while Coleman Good added a double.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated Wyalusing, 7-6 in 8 innings to improve to 14-4. Kipp Hillson went 2 for 5 with two RBIs while Joel Whitteker, Dylan Williamson and Charlie Andrews all had singles as well. Hillson also got the win on the mound as he relieved Carl Dinger in the seventh inning.

Luke Newman smashed a home run in the top of the 14th inning to give Athens a 1-0 win over Montoursville in 14 innings. Owen Kiess had two doubles in the loss as Montoursville falls to 6-8.

Gideon Green had a home run, Hunter Corbin had two doubles and four RBIs and South Williamsport put up nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to earn a 18-2 win over Sullivan County. Aaron Guerresky added four hits, three RBIs and a triple for the Mounties as they improve to 8-5 on the year.

Avery Eddy tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts and no walks to lead Hughesville over Mount Carmel, 8-2. Zack Campbell added two doubles for the Spartans as they improved to 13-3 on the year.

In softball, Kaylee Gee struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit as Loyalsock cruised to a 14-0 victory over Hughesville in four innings. Loyalsock capitalized on five errors by the Spartans, scoring its 14 runs on just 12 hits as five Lancers had at least two hits.

Muncy scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and Kat Ebner drove in two runs and struck out 10 to earn the win in the circle and lead the Indians past Neumann, 9-1.

Britta Berguson had a two-run home run and four RBIs as Liberty qualified for districts with a 10-2 win over Wyalusing.

South Williamsport defeated Lewisburg, 7-1. Alana Stugart and Emily Hennigan both had two hits each for the Mounties while Isabella Bachman had two RBIs. Sydney Hoffman struck out six for Lewisburg.

In boys tennis, Galeton won the District 4 Class AA team championship with a 3-0 win against Lewisburg at Bloomsburg University, earning the third straight title for Galeton boy’s tennis.

Galeton didn’t allow a loss all tournament, as it beat Montoursville, 3-0, in the quarterfinals, Danville in the semifinals, 5-0, and then Lewisburg, 3-0. The Green Dragons blanked Selinsgrove, 3-0, in the semifinals.

Galeton’s Mitchell Smith won at No. 2 singles and Eli Trimbur won at No. 3. The No. 1 singles match between Lewisburg’s Tim Sprunt and Galeton’s Tyler Dugan was unfinished, as Sprunt led, 6-1, 3-4.

Justin Kramer and the tandem of Chris Titman and Malik Wertman won at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, but Muncy fell to Bloomsburg, 3-2 in a regular-season match.

The Hughesville girls track and field team not only capped an undefeated season when it beat Warrior Run Tuesday, it became conference champions for the second consecutive year. The title could not be determined Tuesday night. The PHAC Coaches Invitational is scheduled for Saturday at Shikellamy, starting at 10 a.m., pending weather.

South Williamsport graduate and Bucknell senior Maria Cioffi was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in women’s tennis for the third time in her career on Thursday. Cioffi, who finished 26-6 overall in singles this year, including a 17-4 mark this spring, is the Bison’s career record holder in singles wins and combined wins. A mathematics major, Cioffi holds a 3.86 GPA and was a Dean’s List student every semester while earning a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all four years at Bucknell.
